Crackdown on Illegal IPTV Services in Ireland Leads to Legal Action Against 13 ‘Dodgy Box’ Operators

A two-week operation in December 2024 led to the shutdown of illegal IPTV services across Ireland, affecting thousands of prohibited streams and users.

Legal notices were issued to 13 IPTV operators in cities like Dublin, Cork, and Limerick, demanding they cease their illegal activities or face prosecution. The notices were delivered through various methods, including in person, by post, and via email. The crackdown was successful, resulting in the termination of services, deletion of social media profiles, cancellation of subscriptions, and agreed-upon settlements.

Kieron Sharp, chairman of The Federation Against Copyright Theft (FACT) said the operators were breaking the law, making criminal profits and putting consumers at real risk of malware, data loss and identity theft.

“We want to protect consumers from these risks and operations such as this ensure the message goes out. It is not scaremongering; these are real criminal actions which consumers and their families are exposed to,” he said.
